My wife Kiran and I started the business in 1971 in Santa Monica. Initially, we started the business as Hong Kong mail order for suits. We took customers' measurements and sent them to HK to be made, and after 6 weeks the suits & shirts came already made up and were delivered to the customers. While waiting for the customers' orders we had to keep ourselves busy, and accidentally, we realized that we started doing some repairs (alterations) to non-suit customers.
With word of mouth, we started alterations & repairs on customers' clothes. We contacted the local men's & ladies' outlets to send us their repairs/alterations. Very soon it grew tremendously and all the stores in the neighborhood, like Sears, Miller's Outpost, Gap, Chic Jeans and other stores, started sending us their clothes to be altered. We kept our prices low and our work profesional. We had no problem getting the work. We worked 16-20 hours per day, built up the business and started hiring more people who had good knowledge about tailoring.
I could not do this business without my wife Kiran, she is a vital role in this business.
